A memorable day at APNA GHAR

Pankaj a 9-year old boy had a sadistic face when I asked him about his studies, a moment ago he was dancing with all the happiness of world to every beat of music, but the ecstasy was replaced by despair and glum of his past life.We tried to dig in deep on our quest but he responded only with silence and traumatic face to our every question.After some time he said "I have never been to school". His innocent face was with full of despair of not going to school.His silence speaks it all,he wanted to go to school but he never went to one. Pankaj is an orphan recently brought to an orphanage house called APNA GHAR in Mansarovar, Jaipur.

I am as a member of  Down To Last Cent  Helping Society (NGO) in APNA GHAR. Those who don't know about Down To Last Cent  Helping Society (DLC) let me roll you in. It is an NGO opened on 11th'NOV,2011 by students of GTC, headed by Vipul Sharma.It has around 25 active members and about 650 supporting members. DLC has about 50 objects at present in its constitution,for the upliftment of society.Our main focus remains on providing education to the poor children as we believe it's the remedy for every problem of our society and we are working with efficacy by aiding 11 poor children in all their school expenses and fees. DLC is also working for the dexterous development of overage children (children above 10-12 of age and are still unfamiliar to alphabets), so they can at least earn for their living while they learn.

On 21st'Oct,2012, DLC went to Apna Ghar orphanage home to interact with children.Our main aim was to entertain them which we did with various activities and also to provide them with the type of food which they don't get even if they crave for it.They were served with hot aloo-pyaz parathas ,curd, rasgullas, etc.We also organised various activities for them, which they enjoyed a lot.The activities included 'musical chair', 'lemon race', 'balloon game', 'drawing', 'dance','plating pony', etc.We also celebrated the birthday of a boy 'Jitendra' who turned 14 that day, after we were enlightened of the fact by Mrs. Parashar, the director of Apna Ghar.

There are 65 odd number of children living in Apna Ghar.If we leave out recent entrants in the orphanage,all of them go to school and they like it, they show keen interest towards studies.They have high headed dreams for their future and for them sky is not the limit. Angad a 6year old boy wants to join army, Sanjay pursuing 11th wants to be an engineer, Devkinandan wants to play cricket in blue jersey.These children have big dreams and I can say that they are committed towards these dreams. Pankaj also has a dream but he lacks the medium to achieve it and to help him achieve his dream DLC will be helping him both in education and in skill development.

Children in apna ghar live in harmony with each other, elder children understand their duty towards youngers. There they all live as a brethren with no cast and creed. A boy named Riyaz aesthetically painted while all the  others swore bhojan mantra before having lunch. On my questioning him, he responded by saying he is practicing fast during Navratra's. I foolishly asked him," But aren't you a Muslim ? ", he replied innocently " To kya hua bhaiya ! " a smile came on my face and I felt a gulp of admiration towards him.I felt if  this is an orphanage, let's make whole world an orphanage where there are are no boundations of religion and people live in harmony and global peace.

These are children facing big challenges at a tender age, yet living happily with each other tied with a bond of brotherhood and responsibilities towards each other.Though smitten by their past lives, they have big dreams and an attitude to chase them.At the end of the day they have smile on their faces and that made us blissful and elevated us to an extent that we can't define.

I want to thank the whole DLC Team including Vipul Sharma, Akshat Vijay, Richa Sharma, Sheikh Zuber, Vernita Jain ,Saloni Jain, Arpit Agarwal, Tanmay Mishra, Komal, Sunny, Dr.Vandana, Puneet Vijay, Shubham kanwar, Siddhart Nahar, Shubhi Kumar, Tanu shree Sharma, Priyanka, Vibha ,Rahul and Mr.R. Agarwal.We worked as a team and achieved to bring smile on their faces and we were elevated on seeing their elated faces.It was a memorable day.
